6 LinkedIn myths that are holding you back
(Let’s debunk them)
Let’s be real, there’s a lot of LinkedIn advice floating around.
Some of it is great.
Some of it is just recycled fluff that sounds smart but doesn’t actually work.
And if you’ve ever felt pressured to post daily, comment like a maniac, or chase some secret algorithm, I have good news.
Most of that advice is a myth.
Let’s bust six of the biggest LinkedIn myths so you can grow without the stress.
1. "You need to post daily to grow."
Some people post every day.
And some of those people have engagement so low it’s practically underground.
The truth is, you don’t need to post daily.
You need to post thoughtfully.
Three posts a week with value will get you further than seven posts full of filler.
Instead of chasing volume, focus on consistency and quality.
That’s the real formula.

2. "You need to post at the perfect time."
Some say morning, some say lunchtime, some say it depends on the phases of the moon.
Here’s the truth:
Timing helps, but it’s not everything.
A great post will perform at 7 AM or 10 PM because LinkedIn keeps surfacing it to more people over time.
Focus on resonance, not the clock.
If your content is strong, people will see it.
3. "You need to comment 100 times a day."
If you’ve ever heard that commenting is the fastest way to grow, you’re not alone.
And while engaging with others is important, there’s no need to turn it into a full-time job.
Ten thoughtful comments are better than 100 generic ones.
A few real, engaging conversations will do more for your visibility than spamming "Great post" all over the place.
Comment to build relationships, not just to be seen.
That’s where the magic happens.

4. "You need to copy big creators."
It’s tempting to look at successful LinkedIn influencers and think that if you just do what they do, you’ll grow too.
But their audience, voice, and strategy might not fit you.
People follow people, not clones.
Learn from big creators, but don’t lose your own voice trying to be them.
What works is authenticity, originality, and sharing your own perspective.
That’s what makes you stand out.
5. "You need a large following to win."
Ever see someone with 100,000 followers but barely any engagement?
A big audience means nothing if they don’t care.
A small, engaged audience is more powerful than a big, silent one.
If you have 500 people who actually listen, engage, and trust you, that’s a huge advantage.
Focus on trust, not just numbers.

6. "You need to use specific formats."
Text posts. Carousels. Videos. Selfies. Storytelling. Listicles.
Which one is best?
The one you enjoy creating.
There’s no single best format.
Some people do well with carousels, others succeed with long-form text.
Instead of forcing a format, play to your strengths.
The best content is the one that feels natural to you.
The real secret to LinkedIn growth
There’s no magic formula.
No secret algorithm hack.
No "post at exactly 9:17 AM and watch the leads flood in" trick.
The truth is, growth happens when you focus on value.
If you show up, share insights, connect with people genuinely, and stay consistent, your audience will grow.
Forget the myths.
Build in a way that feels right for you.
Now go break the LinkedIn rules and make your own.
Cheers,
Dan
