The No. 1 LinkedIn mistake

Something interesting has been happening on LinkedIn.

The best creators, the ones who build authority, grow their networks, and attract clients like a magnet, are doing the exact opposite of what most people think works.

They’re not keeping secrets.

They’re not hoarding their special sauce.

And they’re definitely not afraid of copycats.

Nope. They’re giving it all away.

The myth of gatekeeping

Too many creators hold back because they think sharing their knowledge will backfire:

  • “If I share too much, my competitors will steal my ideas.”

  • “People will think I’m no longer special.”

  • “Potential clients won’t need me anymore.”

It sounds logical, right?

But here’s the twist:

The opposite is true.

What happens when you share everything

When you stop gatekeeping and start sharing your insights, here’s what actually happens:

  • You help others win: And people love that. You build goodwill and loyalty.

  • Your authority grows: If you’re the person giving all the answers, guess who becomes the go-to expert?

  • You attract more clients: Because people want to work with someone generous, authentic, and confident.

Sharing isn’t losing.

It’s winning.

Why I share everything

Here’s my approach on LinkedIn:

  • I share exactly what I do.

  • I explain how I do it.

I don’t worry about others copying me.

In fact, I love it when people take my ideas and run with them.

It’s proof that what I’m sharing works.

And the best part?

I’ve never lost opportunities because I shared too much.

If anything, I’ve gained more.

Because the truth is simple:

We can all win.

Let’s break the cycle

Think about it:

Every great idea you’ve had was inspired by someone else.

Someone shared their playbook, their strategy, or their wisdom and it sparked something in you.

Why not pay it forward?

So here’s my challenge for you:

Stop gatekeeping. Start giving.

Write that LinkedIn post.

Share that process.

Teach someone else how to succeed.

You’ll be amazed at what happens when you stop holding back.

We’re all in this together.

Cheers,
Dan
